I’m always looking for new ways to push myself.  Sometimes I want to be put into a box and see if I can work my way out.  Where do you find creativity?

I’m a huge music fan.  At last count, I’ve been to over 600 shows and have nearly 6,000 cds in my basement.  That doesn’t even include my digital files.  I drive about an hour and a half each day and usually have music playing.  It’s a scenic drive through the farms of Frederick and Carroll counties in Maryland.  It’s inspiring.  It helps me connect with the food and the farming process on my way to the kitchen.

Given all this time to think and listen to music, I wondered…What if you took an artist’s catalog and used it as inspiration for a meal? Spend 3 days only listening to one musician or group.  Listen to them at home, at work, in the car.  See how the music evolves/devolves. What would you hear? What would you come up with? Use song titles or lyrics to inspire a dish.  How does the music make you feel? Calm or anxious? It’s amazing how music can change your mood. How can it change your food?

Put yourself in a box and see what you can come up with.
