Today I’m making one of my favorite things. Boston Baked Beans. I use the recipe that has been in my family for 5 generations. This is my family history. This recipe doesn’t get tweaked or changed. You don’t swap out the bean pot for the pressure cooker. You need to be able to follow a vague recipe. While I’m not ready to share this recipe, I can tell you a few things.
You need to find Steuben Yellow Eye Beans. Sure, you can use Great Northern, but it’s not the same. This recipe only has 5 ingredients plus water. Here’s what it doesn’t have: brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, bacon or any spices. Everything gets dumped in a bean pot, and you wait 6-8 hours. Nothing makes the house smell better.
